Curious creatures aren't we?

Don't worry.  I'm glad you're here.

Embrace the wonder...

....and welcome to a bit about me.

Micah Jondel DeShazer (he/him) is an international, award-winning actor, director, conductor and multi-instrumentalist hailing from the US. Moving to Canada in 2021, he is ecstatic to be quickly reestablishing his artistic presence in this wonderfully unique artistic landscape. Currently serving as the Artistic Director for TACTICS Theatre Group, he now helps develop and champion bold new works rooted in the Ottawa community, particularly prioritizing narratives by and for LGBTQ+ and BIPOC creatives. Artistically Micah is interested in works that bridge the gaps between communities through universal themes while maintaining cultural integrity and societal respect. He constantly strives towards dismantling prejudice (from every perspective) by collaborating on works that encourage shifts in our world view through highlighting the commonality and shared realities of humanity regardless of our vastly different and beautiful backgrounds and stories.

So look, if you've met me in person you already know a couple of these stories but for those of you who are new... feel free to read on:

So where did this all even begin? The first show in the 8th grade. Tall, lanky, awkward, the only person of color and only boy in the whole class, but if I didn't sing the swankiest rendition of Summer Nights for the cabaret, I'll be damned. That moment catapulted my heart's desires toward the stage and opened up my heart and my mind in too many ways to count. I studied music and theater for 5 years at Grand Canyon University and studied a year of film at Scottsdale Community College before dropping everything to throw myself into the world of live arts. From collaborative improv dance groups, to film festivals, engaging with multiple ariZoni nominated show runs, and even working on an album as this is being written, I have nothing but joy in my heart to have had as many opportunities as I've been graced with. There have been countless talented minds and artists that I have been able to glean so much perspective, knowledge and understanding from. I am grateful to now be in a consistent position to pass that insight on to the next generation in shows I have been able to direct and masterclasses and arts camps I have been granted a chance to lead and teach.
